Threshold Crossing

For beginnings and endings

Before You Begin

Stand at a threshold—a doorway, a gate, the edge of the woods. It does not need to be dramatic. It only needs to be real.

The Rite

  1. Pause. Feel your feet on the ground. Notice what is behind you.

  2. Name what you are leaving. Speak it aloud or in silence.

  3. Name what you are moving toward. This can be uncertain.

  4. Cross. Step over the threshold. Do not look back.

  5. Breathe. Stand in the new place for three breaths.

Notes

This rite can be done daily, seasonally, or once in a lifetime. The threshold remembers.
